Sustainability
The sound of sustainability
At Boutique Hotel Das Tigra, our sustainability efforts are guided by the ESG framework. ESG stands for Environment, Social, and Governance: environmental responsibility, social engagement, and corporate governance.
"Our goal is to consider as many different stakeholders as possible and to integrate their concerns to the best of our knowledge and conscience."
– Stefan Bogensperger, General Manager and Sustainability Coordinator
Climate protection is close to our hearts
According to the Climate Change Centre Austria (CCCA), 2023 was the warmest year ever recorded in Vienna (+2.7°C compared to 1961–90). As a boutique hotel in the heart of Vienna, we enjoy every sunny day, but are less pleased with heatwaves, droughts, or heavy rainfall. That’s why we conduct a climate balance based on scientific findings and derive appropriate goals (<2°C) and measures.
In 2023, one guest per night including meals emitted a total of 9kg of CO2 equivalents at our hotel. Our goal by 2030 is to reduce this to 5kg CO2 eq (ref. 2023 overnights). Total emissions will be reduced from 248 t CO2 eq to <149 t CO2 eq by 2030. We focus on renewable energy (electricity, heating), breakfast purchasing/sourcing, and waste management.
Austrian & European Ecolabels
Sustainable action is a top priority for us at Boutique Hotel Das Tigra. We proudly hold these certifications to show our commitment to the environment. We place great value on regional and Austrian products and strive for long-term partnerships with our suppliers.
We take the strict requirements seriously and undergo regular, reliable, and independent inspections in the following areas: general management, environmental management, energy, water, waste, air, noise, office, cleaning, chemicals, hygiene, construction and living, facilities, food, kitchen, transportation, and outdoor areas.
Wine from Austria
At our hotel bar, you can enjoy wines from the immediate surroundings of Vienna. Our wines come either directly from Vienna or the nearby Lower Austria region.
Juices from Austria
Our juices are sourced from the Rauch company in Vorarlberg.
Our breakfast buffet
Our vegetables are sourced seasonally from farmers in Vienna. Our eggs are free-range and come fresh from Styria. The mineral water comes from Vöslauer, with the spring located just 29 km away in Bad Vöslau. Our spreads are homemade. Fresh pastries are delivered daily from the traditional Teufner bakery. Gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian, and vegan products are available. We reduce food waste across buffet, kitchen, and plates, and offer sustainable food training in kitchen and service for our staff.
Packaging management
We focus on plastic- and packaging-free options. All single-use packaging has been replaced with eco-certified, refillable containers.
Cleaning products
Our cleaning products come from Hagleitner in Zell am See. They are certified with both the European and Austrian Ecolabel. The products arrive as concentrate in bottles and are mixed with water on-site. We ensure circular resource management by returning all canisters to the supplier.
Paper
To reduce paper consumption, invoices are sent by email upon request instead of being printed.
Green discount
If you arrive by train and present your ticket at check-in, you'll receive a free drink at our hotel bar! You can also book our Green Package, available for stays of two nights or more. It includes, among other things, a 72-hour ticket for Vienna. Thanks to the Vienna Guest Card, all our guests can use the Wiener Linien public transport system for free.
Water
The crystal-clear high spring water of Vienna flows unfiltered and naturally into your room. Our toilets are equipped with a dual-flush system to save water.
LED lighting
We are converting the entire building's lighting system to LED.
Green electricity
We use power interrupters in all rooms and purchase our "clean" electricity from illwerke vkw. Sustainability is a core principle of their business. Here is a statement from the company:
"We protect our environment – We are aware of our ecological responsibility as an energy company. Therefore, careful use of our environment is a top priority in all our activities. Through consistent implementation and promotion of efficiency measures, we aim to contribute to the sustainable use of the limited resource that is energy."
Renewable energy
We actively seek partnerships for the expansion of renewable energy and are greening our building facade wherever possible. We are currently working on an energy concept (heating) in coordination with the (project) innovation Urban Vienna.
Our team
We provide our staff with a shared lunch every day and offer them the annual pass for Wiener Linien. We enable long-term and individually planned work schedules and vacations. Monthly, we celebrate the birthdays of the month. Training apprentices is also a high priority for us.

The Austrian Ecolabel
Your well-being and the environment are very important to us. For this reason, we have been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel by the Ministry for the Environment. As early as 1996, this seal was created to visibly represent eco-conscious management and social responsibility. We are committed to complying with strict environmental criteria and being regularly audited by independent bodies. This includes the following areas: general management, environmental management, energy, water, waste, air, noise, office, cleaning, chemicals, hygiene, construction and living, equipment, food, kitchen, transportation, and outdoor areas.
The European Ecolabel – EU Ecolabel
The EU Ecolabel is a cross-border environmental seal that serves as a uniform designation for environmentally friendly products and services in the European market. It was launched in 1992 by the European Commission. The guidelines for awarding the Ecolabel are developed in cooperation with EU member states. We are proud to carry not only the Austrian but also the European ecolabel and ensure strict compliance with the relevant criteria.

We are proud to be part of Vienna’s sustainable economy and to contribute to a greener future. We warmly invite you to become part of our sustainable philosophy and look forward to welcoming you soon!
